Graduation Conclusion Project — Digital Design

Spray is a graduation project that explores the preservation of graffiti as an ephemeral form of urban expression on the city of São Paulo. The project aims to recover the memory of graffiti by proposing a new way of reading the city through time.

The concept uses the theories of the Situationist International, an artistic and political movement that emerged in the 1950s and viewed the city as a space for social and revolutionary action. In response to routine and urban alienation, the movement introduced the idea of the dérive (“drift”)—a practice of moving through the city without predefined routes, allowing people to rediscover and reclaim public space.

This idea is translated into a mobile application that creates a collaborative archive of graffiti photographs taken at the same locations over different periods. By grouping these images, the project enables a drift through both time and space, revealing the temporary nature of graffiti and the constant transformation of the urban landscape.

The visual identity is built from three core elements: the spray can, representing graffiti; the hourglass, symbolizing the passage of time; and the letter “S” from the project name Spray. The pink and blue tones within the hourglass reference primary colors used in painting and printing, reflecting the creative process behind urban art. The logo draws inspiration from traditional graffiti lettering, ranging from early tag styles to contemporary expressions.
